About us

We are a veterinary study association for anyone interested in birds and special animals. For more than 30 years, we have been working at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to spread knowledge about these species to students. We do this by organizing many different activities related to these wildly fascinating animals. In the meantime, the association has reached over 1100 members including veterinarians, veterinary students and others with affinity to Archaeopteryx.

We organize lectures, workshops, symposia and excursions together with our active members. Thanks to them, we can offer more than thirty activities every year. The majority of our active members are veterinary students, but people from another environment are also very welcome at our activities. For example, our well-known bird first aid workshop, given by Dr. Yvonne van Zeeland, is at least as educational for volunteers at sanctuaries as it is for our students.

Due to the great diversity in animal species, five working groups have been established within Archeopteryx. Every single one of them focuses on a specific animal group:

- Wildlife working group

- Terrarium working group

- Marinelife working group

- Bird working group

- Rabbits, rodents and ferrets (KKF) working group

In addition, the association has five committees that take on the larger and other activities:

- Symposium committee

- Info market committee

- Master committee

- Foreign excursion committee

- Sandwich committee

If members want to become active within the association, they can join one of these working groups or committees (several are of course also allowed!) and thereby help organize activities. Loads of learning and fun guaranteed when becoming an active member!

More information about the working groups and committees can be found at the relevant heading in the task bar menu. For more information and other questions, we are always available at archaeopteryx@uu.nl
